"I was walking away from the venue, when Thom came around the corner. I said to him, "I dont know if you remember, but back in 1993 you brought me on your tour bus to talk about the tour shirt I bought the night before in NYC, and I just wanted to thank you for replying to my letter that I sent you telling how awesome it was that you took that time for a kid."
He had this weird smile on his face, and said "walk with me". We walked towards the venue, and mainly we didn't talk about much of any substance, just how they were working on newer material, and I talked about how great their live shows were, and when we got to the back door of the venue, Jonny was playing the chorus riff to 'Lucky', over and over, I made a comment about how awesome it sounded. I asked if they could play 'Killer Cars', Thom replied, "Oh, we dont play that as a band any more".
Thom thanked me for the support, and started to walk in the back door, one of their road crew saw us talking, said something to Thom, and than told me to come in, but I had to be quiet and stay out of sight. From the side of the stage, I watched them play 'Lucky' about 2 times, maybe 3, and they played 'Airbag'. After that they broke for dinner and I had to get out of the venue."
